How to Convert a Scanned Document to PDF

A stack of paper becomes a stack of phone photos becomes, ideally, one clean PDF you can actually search, share, and file away, not a folder of oddly-cropped images with the pages out of order.
Scanning from your phone
- Photograph each page in good, even lighting, avoiding shadows across the text.

Plain scan vs. searchable scan
A basic scan-to-PDF gives you an image of each page, fine for archiving or printing, but you can't select or search the text inside it. If you need to search the document later, or copy a paragraph out of it, OCR adds a real text layer underneath the image so the content becomes searchable and selectable without changing how the page looks.

What's the difference between just scanning to PDF and using OCR?
A plain scan saves each page as an image inside a PDF, you can view and print it, but you can't select or search the text. OCR (optical character recognition) additionally reads the text in that image and adds a real, searchable, selectable text layer underneath it.
My scanned pages came out in the wrong order, what happened?
This usually happens when photos or scans are uploaded in the order they were taken rather than the order they should read in. Check the page order before finalizing, most scan tools let you drag pages to reorder them.
Can I combine photos from my phone into one scanned PDF?
